Sarah Ann Brooks, 73, of Burnsville, Miss., died on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1940, the daughter of the late Ira Ethel and Bessie Lawrence Compton. She was married for 42 years to Herman Brooks of Burnsville, Miss., who survives.

Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker and a self-employed restaurant business owner who enjoyed running various community diners in Crump.

In addition to her husband, Herman Brooks, she is also survived by her sons, Larry Edwards of Decatur, Ala., Dewayne Brooks (Susan) of Lumberton, Miss.; daughters, Machelle Holden of Burnsville, Miss., Beverly Franks Williams (Harold) of Adamsville, Barbara Kelso (Ty) of Flint, Ala., and Teresa James of Savannah; grandson, David Wayne Franks; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Edwards of Decatur, Ala., Iris Spears ( Jerry) of Hartselle, Ala., and Nina Childers (Keith) of Decatur, Ala.; other family members and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, Ira Ethel and Bessie Lawrence Compton, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Hopkins.
