Bertha Lorene Curtis White, born in in Carnegie, Okla. on October 23, 1918, the daughter of the late William Moses and Mirtie Warren Curtis. On December 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to Hubert Lee White, who preceded her in death on September 20, 1971.

She moved from Oklahoma to McNairy County, and around 1935, she moved to Hardin County. Mrs. White was a member of the Barnhill Methodist Church for over 70 years and served as a teacher, MYF counselor, and sang in the choir. She retired from Brown Shoe Company as a fitter and Walker Elementary School as a cook. She enjoyed gardening, reading, watching the Atlanta Braves and UT Lady Vols on TV.

She departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the age of 94 years, 11 months, 9 days.

Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Becky Wilkes, Dick Humphrey and David Kingsley officiating. Burial followed at the Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery in Shiloh.

She is survived by her children, Emery Lee White of Savannah, Janice Hooper and husband Jimmy of Whitwell, Tenn., Sue Perry and husband Bill of Waverly, Tenn.; grandchildren, Lee White, Blake White, Stanley White, Kelley Harvey, Rhonda Bradshaw, Jason Hooper, and Jennifer Innes; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lee and Raymond Curtis; sister, Agnes Lewis; daughter-in-law, Polly White.
