Jack Evans (9-8-13) service 9-11-13

Jack Evans was born in Hardin County, on March 22, 1924 the son of the late John Young and Lantie Dean Rose Evans. On August 15, 1953 he was united in marriage to Sarah Lorene Blackwelder, who preceded her husband in death on March 4, 1983.

Mr. Evans retired after 40 years from Crounse Corporation where he was a Riverboat Engineer. He served his country in the United States Army where he was one of the soldiers that fought through England known as “Beaver Trail”.

Mr. Evans departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 8, at Savannah Healthcare in Savannah at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 17 days.

He is survived by two sisters, Robbie Ricketts and Ruth Haggard, both of Savannah. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was also preceded in death by six brothers, Rex, Howard, Royal, J. E., James “Buck” and Curtis Evans and two sisters, Johnnie Evans and Marlyn Evans.

Services were held on Wednesday, Sept.11, at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Johnny Burns and Tony Polk officiating. Burial followed in the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery at Savannah.
