Mary Hayes
Mary Mildred Burleson Hayes, the most wonderful mother peacefully departed this earth, on Sunday evening, July 21, 2013, at the age of 93 1/2 years of age. Maw loved her family without exception and without fail; always supported us in all our endeavors.  After moving from Haleyville, Ala., she lived in Sheffield most of her life and in 1992 moved to Walnut Grove to live with her son.  Preceding her in death was her husband, Martin L. Hayes Jr., and grand-daughter, Tara Nicole Thomason; parents, Roxie and Wyatt Burleson of Natural Bridge, Ala., and her six siblings.
Originally a member of The White House Church of Christ in Haleyville, Ala, she also attended Cox Boulevard Church of Christ and Walnut Grove Church of Christ.
Survivors include her son, William Jerry Hayes of Walnut Grove; daughter, Mary Ann Thomason (John Futrell), grandson, James Gregory Thomason and wife Sharon; step great-grandsons, Shannon and Alex Campbell; granddaughter, Shauna Lynn Thomason; great-grandson, Jacob Andrew Pigg, all of Sheffield.  Maw left a number of nieces and nephews; locally, Ellaree Johnson (Robert), Lynn Smith (Mattie), Kimberly Burleson, Keith Ellis (Barbara) and a number of nieces and nephews in Boston, Mass. and Indiana.
Visitation was held at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia, on Wednesday, July 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with her graveside service following at 1:30 p.m.  in Colbert Memorial Gardens.  Ray White officiated.
Pallbearers included Ray White, Johnny Pollard, Hugh Grissom, Ronald Pigg, Jacob Pigg, Shannon Campbell, Alex Campbell and Robert Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Futrell, John Futrell, Lynn Smith and Keith Ellis.
Maw loved to talk about the old times and had a very sharp memory.  She loved to sew, quilt, cook and be with her family.  She taught her family solid Christian faith and for that we are forever grateful.
