Billy Gibbs

Billy Gibbs was born in Hardin County, on Dec. 13, 1942, the son of the late Finley Edgar and Berdie Harue Moffett Gibbs.

On June 20, 1997, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Nelson, who survives.

Mr. Gibbs served his country in the United States Navy. He was a firefighter for the Memphis Fire Department 44. Mr. Gibbs lived in the Memphis area for 38 years and Hardin County area for 28 years. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Gibbs was known as a handyman and he was a great family man.

He departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, in Jackson, Tenn., at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 23 days.

In addition to his wife, Rebecca of Adamsville, he is survived by two sons, Anthony Keith Gibbs and his wife Linda of Collierville, Tenn., and Billy Kevin Gibbs and his wife Patty of Lynchburg, Va.; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth R. Wilson and her husband Chad of Nashville; nine grandchildren, Kristen Legg, Kelsy Gibbs, Benjamin Gibbs, Andrew Gibbs, Robert Gibbs, Tonya Gibbs, John Gibbs, Ashley Boschert and Erin Boschert; three great-grandchildren, Kari Legg, Indigo Legg and Malachi Legg; one sister, Martha Davey of Adamsville; four brothers, Ray Gibbs and Bobby Gibbs, both of Adamsville, Kenneth Gibbs of Savannah and Donny Gibbs of Stantonville, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Watson, Margaret Scott, Charlyne Powell; and five brothers, John Elmer Gibbs, W.M. (Snow) Gibbs, Hoover Gibbs, Fay Gibbs and Joe Gibbs.

Services were held on Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Jerry Gibbs officiating. Burial followed in the Crump Cemetery at Crump.
