William Winters

William T. Sherman Winters, 84, of Savannah, died Wednesday, April 3.

He was son of the late Andrew W. and Myrtle Thornton Winters.

Mr. Winters was employed by Phillips Construction Company, Piggly Wiggly grocery store, Tennessee Gas Pipeline and he also worked for Dr. John Lay.

Services were held on Saturday, April 6, at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah with Rev. Sam Edward Reeves Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.

He is survived by daughters, Chequita W. Smith of Southfield, Mich., Demetrice W. Hart of Savannah, Marilyn Winters of Florence, Ala., Elaine Casey of Savannah and Denice W. Demers of Franklin, Tenn.; sisters, Juanita Fry and Mattie Jackson, both from Savannah; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Chaney Graham Winters.

He was also preceded in death by a son, William A. Winters; brothers, Hillard Winters, Douglas Winters, and Alex Young; sisters, Lucy Winters and Albanie Ward.
