Libby Smith

Libby Smith was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Columbia, Tenn., to Thomas Boyd and Opal Elizabeth (Hough) LeCroy, who preceded her in death. She married Robert O. Smith on Sept. 7, 1951, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2011.

Mrs. Libby was self-employed and retired as owner and operator of H.O. Smith & Sons Grocery Store. She was a member of Olive Hill Baptist Church where she served as pianist for the church for almost 50 years. She loved working in her store and especially enjoyed making bologna sandwiches for her customers. She also loved baby-sitting her great-grandson.

Mrs. Libby departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 16 days at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Franks and her husband, Joel, of Savannah, and a son, Billy Smith and his wife, Vickie, of Olive Hill; one brother, Jack LeCroy of Lexington, Tenn.; two sisters, Dianah West of Nashville and Jane Davis of Cookeville, Tenn.; a special aunt, Ethel Lynn of Lacey Springs, Ala.; one grandchild, Jo Ann Schumann and her husband, Keith, and two step-grandchildren, Brad and Blake Freeman; one great-grandchild, Maddox Freeman.

Services were held on Friday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Kyle Wishert, Roger Henson officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
