Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Rickman Smith, 85, of Savannah, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Savannah.

She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Fred D. and Pearl Wood Rickman. She was united in marriage to Hughie Smith, who survives.

Mrs. Smith was a Registered Nurse for the VA Hospital where she was head of surgery for 35 years. She served her country in the United States Army where she was a cadet nurse. She was a member of Counce First Baptist Church and a member of the Gideons International.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Counce First Baptist Church with Jimmy McChristian officiating. Burial followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery at Shiloh.

In addition to her husband Hughie of Shiloh, she is survived by one son, Rick Sullivan of Oakland, Tenn.; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Rickman of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Fred "Buster" Rickman of Shiloh; and two sisters, Ludine Carlisle of Germantown, Tenn., and Maxine Grisham of Memphis.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Onah Ruth Dixon and Mildred Kimbrough; and one brother, C.G. Rickman.
