Perry Mullen Sr.

Perry Wesley Mullen Sr., 90, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Savannah, and a longtime resident of Starkville, Miss., died Friday, Jan. 4.

He was born in Decatur, Ga., a son of the late Perry W. and Agnes D’Andrea Mullen.

Mr. Mullen Sr. served in the United States Army on Okinawa in World War II. For 40 years, while living with his family in Savannah, and then Starkville, Miss., he was a director and vice president of manufacturing for Garan Incorporated, the New York based apparel design and manufacturing company. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in both Savannah and Starkville. Ever the adventurer, Perry hiked the Appalachian Trail, owned and piloted small airplanes and was an avid boater and fisherman, spending many of his last years living on a cruising boat, traveling the Atlantic coast from Nova Scotia to the Caribbean before settling in Vero Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Kalas Mullen of Starkville Miss.

He is survived by his wife, Judith T. Mullen; a son Perry W. Mullen Jr. of Richmond, Va.; five daughters, Maureen M. Clayton of Cape Neddick, Maine, Jeanne Ann Davidson of Athens, Ga., Deena Lynn Mullen of Los Angeles, Helen Christie Mullen of New York City and Norda Ruth Mullen of London, England; a sister Jeanne Williams of San Francisco; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place in Atlanta at North Springs United Methodist Church, 7770 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs, Ga. 30350 at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 12. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy., NW, Sandy Springs, Ga 30328. An informal reception will follow.
