Lela Haggard Griffin

Lela Haggard Griffin was born in Hardin County, on Oct. 30, 1917, the daughter of the late Otis Orval and Zelma Garrard Haggard.

On Dec. 17, 1933, she was united in marriage to Landous M. Griffin, who preceded his wife in death Aug. 16, 2000.

Lela was a homemaker and enjoyed reading her Bible, cooking, cross stitching, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lela departed this life and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 3. She made profession of faith early in life and was a member of the Foursquare Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Maxine Love of Savannah; one brother Byrl Haggard of Savannah; four grandchildren, Anette (Love) Shelby and husband Michael of Savannah, Jeffrey Love and wife Mary of Adamsville, Gary and Larry Walker; great-grandchildren, Brittany Shelby, Emily (Shelby) Bobo, Hannah, Madison and Sarah Beth Love, Amanda Walker, Shane and Robert Walker.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lela was preceded in death by a daughter, Frankie Walker; infant son; son-in-law, Royce Love; four brothers, Otis, Herbert, Robert and Earl Haggard; one sister, Laura Hazel Davis, and one half brother, Barney Haggard.

Services were held on Sunday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Artie Rivers, Robert House officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
