Herbert Tyson Allen, 86, of Savannah, died Friday, Oct. 12, in Jackson, Tenn.

He was born in Corinth, Miss., the son of the late Guy and Jewel Lambert Allen. He was united in marriage to Thelma Lasater, who survives.

Herbert served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a self-employed piano technician. He was a jazz musician and studio musician at Sun Records. He was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church and a member of the Piano Tuners’ Guild.

Services were held on Monday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m., at New Life United Pentecostal Church in Savannah with Rev. Gerald Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.

In addition to his wife Thelma of Savannah, he is survived by his children, Bruce Allen of Woodbury, Minn., Jay Allen of Farmington, N.M., Ann L. Holifield of Lexington, Tenn., Janis C. Jones of Savannah and Nancy L. Messer of Hendersonville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dwan Bradford of Pulaski, Tenn., Rosanne Whitson of Cleveland, Tenn., Madelyn Stultz of Munford, Tenn., and Gaynelle Wade of Big Sandy, Tenn.; three brothers, Murray and David Allen, both of Farmington, N.M., and Scott Allen of Memphis.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy Galbreath and Jamie Grzech.
