Mattie Pearl "Mama Pearl" Taylor, 93, of Savannah, died Saturday, Oct. 6.

She was born in Savannah, daughter of the late Edward and Louise Stephen Tucker. She was united in marriage to James Hollis (Jim Dan) Taylor, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Taylor was employed as a cook at Dunbar High School and she also worked as a domestic worker over the years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Savannah.

Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.

She is survived by four sons, Nathaniel of Germany, Emmanuel, Frank Hollis and Billy Malcolm Taylor, all of Savannah; three daughters, Virginia Taylor of Chicago, Ill., Mary Catherine Jordan of Opelika, Ala., Dorothy Welch of Chicago, Ill., and Shirley Tall of Nashville; 29 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were a son, James Edward Taylor Sr.; two brothers, George and William "Bill" Tucker; three sisters, Ethel Gillis, Roberta Davis and Zenobia Taylor; grandparents, Elias and Mahalia Terrell Stephens, and Andrew and Melinda B. Ellison Tucker; and two grandchildren.
