Mable Sevier

Mable Virginia Thornton Sevier, 91, of Savannah, died Sunday, Aug. 26.

She was the daughter of the late Chester and Ethel Austin Sevier. She was united in marriage to Cluster Marshall Sevier Sr., who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sevier worked for the Cherry Truck Stop in Savannah as a cook. She later worked for Dr. and Mrs. John Lay as their housekeeper, cook and nanny.

Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Dr. Roger Hopson, Orman J. Salters Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the Shelby Cemetery at Savannah.

She is survived by three daughters, Janice Taylor of Jackson, Tenn., Mary Latimer Carter of Baltimore, Md., and VaRand Sevier Pride of Savannah; one son, Graylon Sevier of Smyrna, Tenn., a sister, Wilma Bumpus of Savannah; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren;

She was preceded in death by her half-sister, Clorene Slay; three sisters, Rosie White, Myrtle Winters and Annie Hamilton; three brothers, Robert, Vernon Bus and Gus Frank Thornton.
