Jerry Shelly departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the age of 70 years, 9 months, 29 days.

Jerry was born in Dyer County, Tenn., on Oct. 27, 1941, the son of the late Newton Lorenzo and Murley Alice Quinn Shelly. On Nov. 25, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jimmie White, who survives.

Jerry was the fire chief with the Savannah Fire Department and had previously served on the Dyersburg Fire Department for 30 years. He was an avid sportsman. His favorites were hunting and fishing. Jerry was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Savannah.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jimmie Shelly of Savannah; daughters, Lynette Shelly Ezell of Atlanta, Ga. and Amy Shelly Adkisson of Savannah; grandchildren, Anna Creswell, Shelly Ezell, Taylor Ezell, JM Ezell, Libby Ezell, Micah Lyn Ezell, Addy Adkisson and Abram Adkisson; brother, Wayne Shelly of Bridgeview, Ill.; sister, Brenda Shelly Bendel of Lake Forest, Ill.; sister-in-law, Sherri Ballinger of Dyersburg, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Tom White and Estel White, both of Dyersburg, Tenn.

Services were held on Monday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m., at Hopewell Baptist Church in Savannah with Derek Westmoreland, Edward Green officiating. Burial followed in the Savannah Cemetery.
