Cody Shaw Matthews was born in Horn Lake, Miss. on Dec. 14, 1991, to April Shaw Newman. Ethel "Puddy" Matthews and the late Jerry Orr Matthews adopted and raised him.

Mr. Matthews was a graduate of Hardin County High School and had attended Nashville Automotive Diesel College. He was a member of the Oak Hill Christian Church in Corinth, Miss.

He had worked as a summer employee for the Pickwick Landing State Park. In addition to Counce, he had also lived in Tipton County, Tenn.

Mr. Matthews enjoyed swimming, fishing, and playing his Xbox. He was a very loving person and had wished to be an organ and tissue donor so that his life might save someone else’s.

He departed this life on Friday, March 2, at the age of 20 years, 2 months, and 17 days.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his biological mother April Shaw Newman of Counce; his grandparents Bud and Debbie Shaw of Olive Branch, Miss.; two sisters: Sherry Matthews of Stillwater, Okla. and Shelia Medlin of Wellston, Okla.; two brothers: Ryan Jacob Sides of Counce and Michael James Matthews and his wife Becca of Burlison, Tenn.: a very special aunt Marie Burris of Counce, and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Matthews will have a memorial service on Saturday, March 10, at 3 p.m. at the Oak Hill Christian Church, 26 Co. Rd. 194, Corinth, Miss., with Frank Williams, pastor.

Directions to Oak Hill Christian Church. From Michie, take Hwy. 57, turn right on Kendrick Road. Turn left onto County Road/State Line and the church will be on your right.
