Flora Mae Powell Jones

Flora Mae Powell Jones was born in Henderson County, Tenn., on May 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Lynn and Annie Powell.

On Feb. 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to J.W. Jones, who preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1988.

Mrs. Jones had worked for Wilson Sporting Goods for 10 years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, men’s and women’s basketball and cooking.

Mrs. Jones departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the age of 88 years, 8 months, 9 days.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Miller of Collierville, Tenn. and Kathey Ball of Savannah; six grandchildren, Beth Dutton and husband Allen, Sherrye Harrell and husband John, Jennifer Stanford and husband Charles, Chad Ball and wife Christy, Doug Fitzgerald, and Ashley Berry and husband Clint; seven great-grandchildren, Stacy Bass, Wesley Harrell, Mary-Catherine Standford, Kalyn Ball, Lamar Ball, Sarah Ball and Alia Grace Ball; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Johnny A. Powell and wife Patsy of Bartlett, Tenn.; sister, Jo Ann Ivy of Milledgeville; daughter-in-law, Donna Fitzgerald and husband Wayne of Crump; sister-in-law, Jo Anne Powell Jones and husband Elbert Jr. of Milledgeville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Wesley Jones Jr.; a sister, Louise Powell Grooms; and a brother, James M. Powell.

Services were held on Tuesday, January 24, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Chad Ball, Clint Berry, Jason Martindale officiating. Burial followed in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
