George Thomas Stephens Jr.

Mr. G.T. "Skeeter" Stephens passed peacefully Thursday, Jan. 5, at The Blake in Gulf Breeze, Fla.

Born March 28, 1914, Mr. Stephens moved to Savannah with his wife Althea "Bobbie" Stephens in the mid 1930s. He owned businesses in Savannah for many years, including Stephens’ Super Market and Pickwick Package Store, not retiring until he was in his 80s. An avid gardener, with a special love for roses, camellias, and tomatoes, Mr. Stephens lived a productive and happy life. He pursued his hobbies passionately, including arrowhead and Indian artifact hunting, collecting antiques, and enjoying the wonderful meals that Mrs. Stephens cooked over the many years of their marriage.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Althea "Bobbie" Stephens; son, G.T. "Sonny" Stephens III; and daughter, Patricia Carol Stephens.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Craig Stephens and wife Shalini, Suzanne Stephens Musgrove and husband Billy, great grandchildren, Anna Stephens and Will and Sims Musgrove.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Home.
