Sallie Ellen Vanhoose (12-19-11)
Sallie Ellen Vanhoose Ms. Sallie Ellen Vanhoose, age 96, of Jackson, passed away on Dec. 19. She was born on May 19, 1915, to the late Lula and Harry Welch. She was raised in the Pickwick/Savannah area. She had seven brothers. Ms. Vanhoose was married to the late Roy Vanhoose. They have two children, Ann Phillips of Jackson, Tenn. and John Vanhoose of Monticello, Miss., four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many great nieces and nephews. She was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2005. She lived at St. Mary’s Manor for many years and has many dear friends from St. Mary’s. Ms. Vanhoose worked in retail and loved gardening. Her first love was taking care of her family. Ms. Vanhoose was a donor in the Genesis Gift of Life Program, Medical Education and Research Institute, Memphis. Her hope was that her gift would reach out and give a better chance at life. Special thanks to all the employees at Maplewood Nursing Home, Jackson, Tenn., for their compassion and care. A memorial service will be held at a later time. George A. Smith and Sons, North Chapel.
