Gladys Bateman (9-27-11) services 9-30-11

Gladys Kelley Bateman, 91, of Clifton, died Tuesday, Sept. 27.

She was born in Decatur County, Tenn., the daughter of the late Andrew David and Desdie Pearl Anderson Leeper. She was united in marriage to Clemmie A. Kelley, who preceded her in death. She was later united in marriage to Thomas M. Bateman who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bateman was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton and had retired from Clifton Contracting where she was a seamstress.

Services were held on Friday, Sept. 30, at First Baptist Church in Clifton, with Randall Runions officiating. Burial followed in the Clifton Cemetery at Clifton.

She is survived by a daughter, Louise K. Davison of Savannah; three sons, Joe A. Kelley of Savannah, David Kelley of Finger, Tenn. and Gene Kelley of Clifton; seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Leeper, Arbie Wheat, Mae Lanier and Naomi Dawson; two brothers, Wilmer and Ray Leeper; and a grandson.
