Bessie Franks

Bessie Franks, 78, of Olive Hill, died Saturday, Sept. 24.

She was born in Colbert County, Ala., the daughter of Ira J. and Katie Jane Glover Middleton. She was united in marriage to Loyde L. Franks, who preceded her in death.

For 12 to 14 years Mrs. Franks owned and operated a discount clothing store; Bessie also worked in the cafeteria of Hardin County High School for six years. For more than 55 years, she preached at several churches in Wayne and Hardin Counties. For the last 10 to 12 years, she pastored at Coveys Chapel Church.

Services were held on Monday, Sept. 26, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Roy Davidson officiating. Burial followed in the Olive Hill Cemetery at Olive Hill.

She is survived by four children, Tommy Leon, Rickey R. and Mark Franks, all of Olive Hill, and Glenda Sue Davidson of Savannah; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Davis of Sheffield, Ala., and Jane Dukes of Henagar, Ala.; and two brothers, Arthur of Olive Hill and Ray Middleton of Savannah.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson; three brothers, Ira Jr., Troy Dean and Jimmy Middleton; and a sister, Bobbie Arnett.
