Edward Russell Arnold

Edward Russell Arnold was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., on Nov. 23, 1926, the son of the late Jacob and Mary Veronica Brennan Arnold.

On Dec. 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Loraine Cecelia Berneburg, who survives.

Mr. Arnold was vice president of research and development for Aqua Glass. He also had worked for Dow Chemical, Atlantic Research Company, Robinson and Lamey, American Cyanimide, Koppers, Alpha Resins Corporation, Newhall Land and Farming, Aqua Dynamics, Ed Arnold Consulting, Ed Arnold Realty, Fibertech and Arnold, Cope and Crary. Mr. Arnold owned many other businesses throughout his life.

Mr. Arnold is a former resident of Pittsburgh, Penn., Missouri, Michigan, Virginia and California. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Robotics Society of Tennessee where he served as president, Society of Plastics Institute, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society, American Composites Manufacturing Association, Knights of Columbus and he was Scout Master of Boy Scouts in Springfield, Virginia.

Mr. Arnold loved golfing, tennis, teaching and flying.

He departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 25, in Savannah, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 2 days.

In addition to his wife, Loraine of Savannah, he is survived by four sons, John Arnold and his wife, Joey of Clearwater, Fla., Tom Arnold and his wife Laura of Greenville, S.C., Rus Arnold and his wife Lana of Ojai, Calif. and Chuck Arnold of Savannah; three daughters, Carol Arnold and her husband Terry Hagemeier of Adamsville, Mary Benoit and her husband David of Largo, Fla. and Joan Overman and her husband Jim of Bainbridge, Ga.; 20 grandchildren, Christina Povall, Alendra McGuire, Jennifer Arnold, Travis Hagemeier, Chris Hagemeier, Jerico Hagemeier, Sara Hagemeier, Naomi Arnold, Tyler Starbard, Tanner Starbard, Zack Arnold, Madison Arnold, Slade Jackson, Trace Arnold, Chris Benoit, Katherine Benoit, Scott Overman, Jill Overman, Paige Overman and Kara Overman; six great-grandchildren, Lauren Turner, Riley McGuire, Hailey Beckham, Shaun Taylor, Jonathan Tisdale and MacKenzie Jackson.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Arnold was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Arnold and Stephen Arnold; and one grandchild, Jacob Benoit.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund, Savannah, or charity of their choice.

Services were held on Monday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m., at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Savannah with Father Anthony Azuwike, Father James Martell officiating.

Graveside service will be at later date.
