Betty Smith (7-15-11) services 7-17-11

Betty Smith, 73, of Savannah, died Friday, July 15, in Jackson, Tenn.

She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Ed and Virginia Opal Alexander Highland. She was united in marriage to Billy Franklin Smith, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smith was a seamstress for Angelica and had worked for years in garment factories. She was a member of Carmel Heights Baptist Church in Crump.

Services were held on Sunday, July 17, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Johnny Burns and Benny Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the Hollands Creek Cemetery at Hardin County.

She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Ann Smith Dennis of Newnan, Ga.; three sons, Steven Kent Smith of Niles, Mich., Michael Franklin Smith and Brian Keith Smith, both of Savannah; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Mack of Savannah; one brother, Jerry Highland of Arkansas.

She was also preceded in death by three infant children; two brothers, Phil and Larry Highland; and three sisters, June Highland, Janie Highland and Leona Highland.
