Kay White

Elizabeth "Kay" Ganus White was born Sept. 11, 1963, in Alcorn County, Miss., the daughter of Dorothy L. Browder Ganus and the late Bobby Charles Ganus.

Kay was a graduate of Central High School in Savannah. She had worked in the restaurant industry practically all her adult life. She was the former owner of Kay’s Restaurant in Selmer, and had also worked with The Sawmeal Restaurant in Adamsville and River Heights Restaurant in Crump. Kay was baptized at Christian Assembly Church in Adamsville, and attended there when possible. She was a very loving, giving person who always put others first. Kay never waivered in her faith, and always had a positive, hopeful spirit. Her children saw her as "the best multi-tasker ever."

Kay departed this life on Friday, May 27, in Adamsville, at the age of 47 years, 8 months, 16 days.

She is survived by a daughter, Hannah Brown of Adamsville; two sons, Josh Brown and wife Holly of Selmer, and Kaleb Brown of Adamsville; two grandchildren, Julius Brown and Jullian Brown, both of Selmer; her mother, Dorothy L. Browder Ganus of Michie; a sister, Kathy Harrison of Michie; three brothers: Ken Ganus and wife Sandi of Little Rock, Ark., Eddie Ganus of Crump, and Steve Ganus and wife Teri of Little Rock, Ark.; her former husband and the father of her children, Don Brown of Selmer; special friends and caregivers Tim, LeAnn, and Easton Knight of Selmer; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her father, Kay was preceded in death by a brother, Denny "Doc" Ganus; a nephew, Ken Ganus; maternal grandparents, Lacie and Laura Browder; and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Artie Ganus.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the First Baptist Church of Adamsville for their compassion, care, and concern for Kay and her family during the latter stages of her illness.

Services were held on Monday, May 30, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Savannah, with W.D. McCollum and William Plunk officiating. Burial followed in the Crump Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Kay may be sent to The American Cancer Society.
