Eunice Shelby

Eunice Eva Rice Shelby, of Saltillo, was born in Hardin County, on July 16, 1921, the daughter of the late Madison Escert and Jimmie Petty Rice.

On Dec. 29, 1939, she was united in marriage to W.H. (Pete) Shelby, who preceded his wife in death on Aug. 30, 1995.

Mrs. Shelby taught school for more than 40 years and much of her early career was spent in one-teacher schools. She especially loved her garden and enjoyed being with her friends. Mrs. Shelby was a member of Saltillo United Methodist Church where she taught a Sunday school class and she always looked forward to her Bible study each week. Mrs. Shelby was also a member of Bath Springs Eastern Star. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife.

Mrs. Shelby departed this life on Saturday, April 16, in Savannah, at the age of 89 years and 9 months.

She is survived by two sons, Bill C. Shelby and his wife Janice of Saltillo, and Brad Shelby of Henderson, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Tracye Huffaker and her husband Bo, Allison Davey and her husband Michael, Madeline Shelby, and Jared Shelby and his wife Shannon; two great grandchildren, Hayley Huffaker and Taylor Grace Davey.

Services were held on Wednesday, April 20, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Phil Bridges, Mary Foote officiating. Burial was in the White Lawn Cemetery at Saltillo/
