Helen Jones

Helen Ruth Jones, of Savannah, was born in Gadsden, Tenn., on Jan. 16, 1936, the daughter of the late Doss and Georgie Parrott.

On Aug. 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jimmy Buster Jones, who preceded her in death on June 6, 2000.

Mrs. Jones retired from Savannah Manufacturing after working there for 32 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and dining out. She loved visiting with senior citizens. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Souls Harbour Church and was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. Although she only had 11 grandchildren, she was a granny to everybody.

Mrs. Jones departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 9, at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 23 days.

Mrs. Jones is survived by three daughters, Brenda Dickey of Jackson, Tenn., Barbara Alexander of Savannah and Donna McGee of Florence, Ala.; a son, Ernie Jones of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Alexander, Angie Matlock, Michael Rainey, Jaithen Jones, Matthew Jones, Michael Jones, Chris Murphy, Colton Murphy, Tiffany Reeder, Lance McGee and Megan McGee; three great-grandchildren, Spencer Howse, Kaylee Matlock and Ally McGee; two sisters, Ruby Campbell of Crump and Polly White of Morris Chapel; a brother, Tommy Parrott of Corinth, Miss.; a very special friend, Jimmy Joe Briley, who she couldn’t make it without, she loved him dearly.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Harrison; and great-grandchild, Jayden Williamson.

Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Lynn Johnson, Rannie Moore officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Hardin County, Tenn.
