Margaret Ann Handley

Margaret Ann Wood Handley was born in Carroll County, Tenn., on Sept. 3, 1939, the daughter of the late Jessie (Bud) and Dexter White Wood.

On April 27, 1961, she was united in marriage to Ted Handley, who preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 2010.

Mrs. Handley had worked for Milan Arsenal for two years, owned and operated Atwood Market for 27 years, and worked in garment factories for 20 years. She had lived in Lavinia, Tenn. for a short time, Atwood, Tenn. for 30 years, and Savannah, Tennessee for four years. Mrs. Handley was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church and an official board member. She enjoyed sewing, all sports, playing cards, and watching her grandchildren play ball. She loved her family very much.

Mrs. Handley departed this life on Sunday, Nov. 28, at the age of 71 years, 2 months, 25 days.

Mrs. Handley is survived by a daughter, Kathy Handley Carroll of Savannah; two grandchildren, Kaitlin Margaret Carroll and Caleb James Cunningham; two sisters, Brooxie Summers of Germantown, Tenn. and Janie-Mae White of Henderson, Tenn.; a special uncle, Lee White of Huntingdon, Tenn.; special in-laws, Tommy Handley, Rex Handley and Patsy Handley Gibbs, all of Savannah; a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Keith Ray Wood Handley.

Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Ron Jones officiating. Burial was in the Pisgah Cemetery at Atwood, Tenn.
