Lonnie Tidwell

Lonnie Tidwell was born in Hardin County, on Dec. 16, 1940, the son of the late Lonnie Tidwell Sr. and Mattie Lee Fox Tidwell.

On Aug. 29, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judy Ann Barbee, who survives.

Mr. Tidwell worked for Tidwell’s Manufacturing and Tidwell’s Bargain Center. He was a member of Ward’s Apostolic Church. Mr. Tidwell was a former resident of Elkhart, Ind. and Waterloo, Ala. He loved gardening, cooking fish and carpentry. He was a very hard worker, easy going and enjoyed life. Mr. Tidwell never met a stranger.

He departed this life on Friday, Oct. 1, at the Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Ala., at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 15 days.

In addition to his wife, Judy of Savannah, he is survived by two daughters, Theresia Roach and her husband John and Lisa Copeland and her husband Charles, all of Savannah; five grandchildren, Jacob Roach, Luke Roach, Casey Copeland, Levi Copeland and Kayla Copeland Strange; two great grandchildren, Jacoby Billsie and Zachary Billsie; one brother, John Tidwell of Savannah; two sisters, Wilma Hodges of Middleton, Tenn. and Inez Stricklin of Savannah.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and James Tidwell; two sisters, Louise Hairell and Yvonne Banks; and one grandchild, Samuel Copeland.

Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Kevin Smith, Jim Young officiating. Burial was in the Holland’s Creek Cemetery at Hardin County.
