John H. Long

John H. Long was born in Counce, on Dec. 23, 1919, the son of the late Cleve and Naomi Counce Long.

On Dec. 23, 1939, he was united in marriage to Arzie Welch, who preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1990.

Mr. Long had worked for TVA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Counce First Baptist Church. He was Veteran of World War II serving in Okinawa, Japan and received numerous medals including the Purple Heart.

Mr. Long departed this life on Thursday, April 15, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, 23 days.

Mr. Long is survived by two sons, James Long of Memphis and Bobby Long of Counce; five daughters, Joyce Godwin of Counce, Fran Wollner of Silver Springs, Md., Wil Webb of Gulf Shores, Ala., Jan Perkins of Memphis and Betty Dickerson of Covington, Tenn.; a sister, Nell Landrum of Iuka, Miss.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, JC Long; three sisters, Ruth Ramsey, Ethel Grisham and Tillie Stevenson.

Services were held on Sunday, April 18, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Hickman Ewing officiating. Burial was in the White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam.
