Wilburn Lesley Terry

Wilburn Lesley Terry, 79, passed away peacefully on March 4, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Marion, Ind.

He was born May 1, 1930, in Hardin County, to the late Marcus and Mallie Terry. He was a graduate of Savannah High School, Savannah. He married Mary Ellon Wheat on July 15, 1954.

He was a United States Navy veteran and fought in the Korean War. He retired from the Marion General Motors plant (CPC) where he worked as a tool and die maker and machine repair. He was a lifetime member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and cherished friendships made during the 50+ years he was involved. His love of muzzle loading guns led him to become an accomplished gun maker. He was inducted into the Black Powder Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Shooter’s Hall of Fame in 2008. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop and was an avid fisherman. He was a fan of Kentucky Wildcat Basketball and NASCAR. He had a wonderful laugh and loved to kid and joke around with family and friends. He will be missed by his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie (Tim) Willmann, Marion, Misti (Bob) Beal, Summitville; stepdaughter, Susie (Mike) Hoke, Greensburg; three grandchildren, Leslie Grose, Marion, Casi and Jesse Beal, Summitville; two step-grandchildren, Amy (Tracy) Vannater, Greensburg, Jason (Ella) Hoke; and four step great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Nell (Paul Jr.) Thompson, Marion and Thelma (Charlie) Horton, Savannah.

He was preceded in death in September of 2009 by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellon. Also, a sister, Dorothy Abernathy and a brother, Vernon.

Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 8, at Needham-Storey- Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main Street, Gas City, Ind., with Rev. Jerry Galloway officiating. Burial with military honors was in Riverside Cemetery, Gas City, Ind.
