J.D. Matlock

J.D. Matlock was born in McNairy County on May 16, 1931, the son of the late Reeder Columbus and Floy Lee Matlock.

Mr. Matlock worked at Grady George’s supermarket and retired from the Brown Shoe Company in Savannah. He was a skilled craftsman and spent his retired years building beautiful woodwork. He was a member of Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He dearly loved his family and adored his five grandchildren.

Mr. Matlock departed this life on Friday, Jan. 29, at the age of 78 years, 8 months, 13 days.

He was united in marriage on Aug. 21, 1956, to Jackie Lay Matlock, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Johnny Matlock and wife Bobbie, and Ronny Matlock and wife Cindy, all of Savannah; two granddaughters, Jessica Davey and husband Mel of Nashville, and Ashley Matlock of Savannah; and three grandsons, Daniel Matlock, Ryan Matlock and Austin Matlock, all of Savannah. Mr. Matlock is also survived by three sisters, Oma Jean Ratliff, Lou Jane Essary and Martha Rinks; and two brothers, Jerry Wayne Matlock and Charles Ray Matlock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lovie Deadrick and three brothers, R.C. Matlock, E.G. Matlock and Joe Matlock.

Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Jim Wright and Tommy Jack Worley officiating. Burial was in the Wesley’s Chapel Church Cemetery at Savannah.
