Grace Shelby

Grace Franks Shelby, 88, of Savannah, died Thursday, Jan. 28.

She was born in Wayne County, the daughter of the late Charlie Hassell and Alice White Franks. She was united in marriage to Warren G. Shelby, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Shelby had worked for Brown Shoe Company as a floor lady. During World War II she had worked in Mobile, Ala., in one of the shipyards, where she was one of the many called "Rosie the Riveter." She was a member of the Eureka Methodist Church.

Services were held on Monday, Feb. 1, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Don Lee officiating. Burial was in the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery at Hardin County.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue Rickman of Savannah; a son, Charles Greenwell of Savannah; a sister, Margie Briley of Savannah; and a grandson.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mae Harris, Clyte Franks and Helen Matlock; three brothers, Vondell, Edward and Ulvie Franks.
