Max Gately

Max Ray Gately Sr., 72, of Saltillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Hardin Medical Center in Savannah.

He was born in Sweetlips, Tenn. community, the son of the late W. P. and Esther Young Gately. He was united in marriage to Kattye Marie Ritter, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Gately was a heavy equipment operator for CSMI and numerous other places. He was Baptist in belief.

Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 16, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Josh Franks officiating. Burial was in the Morris Chapel Cemetery at Morris Chapel.

He is survived by one son, Max Ray Gately Jr. of Saltillo; five daughters, Teresa Fay Russell and Vickie Lynn Smith, both of Henderson, Tenn., Sharon Marie Whitten of Crump, Lora Ann Combs of Adamsville and Teresa Elaine Bass of Detroit, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jorine Zidnack of Memphis; and one brother, Paul Hayes Gately of Wieser, Idaho.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Exie Pickett; three brothers, Guy, Leonard and Dewayne Gately; and a granddaughter.
