The Iron Lady

Streep Gives Iron Clad Performance Again
The Iron Lady, PG-13, ***, Meryl Streep, Jim Broaddent, Alexandra Roach, Harry Lloyd, Olivia Colman. The Weinstein Company. Director Phylllda Lloyd. Length 105 minutes.

Meryl Streep is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress, and an Oscar for Best Actress. Again, she inhabits the character of Margaret Thatcher as she does with all of her roles. What an actress! She is an actress that delivers on all roles she takes on as she becomes the character.
The film moves from time period to time period. We see Thatcher as an older lady having a touch of hallucinations.
Streep is an excellent actress. However, this script did not bring her persona into a clear vision. We know Thatcher was one tough lady, but moving from one decade to the other without giving the audience enough information left this viewer a little confused about her contributions. Did she help or not?
There is no doubt she was a strong leader during the Falkland Islands conflict. However, what was really accomplished other than saying Great Britain won.
She was a hardheaded driving force in Great Britain believing it was her way or the highway. “Iron Lady” is a great title for her.
I am still not sure if she changed things for the best. Great Britain had a lot of violent protests during her terms. I really need to know more about the background and policy changes in Great Britain during her term to make a good decision about her leadership. She was a strong lady, but did not seem to want to compromise, so I am not sure about how her policies helped or hindered. The movie did not supply enough information for the audience to get a full grip on her legacy.
The movie is a little slow, but it does give the audience a brief look into her life. I believe it could have been more detailed about her policies and accomplishments.
It appeared she could have had more balance in her life. She was so obsessed with political life and trying to make a difference, she ignored her husband and children. Even though her husband stood beside her, she needed to do more with him and her two children.
This is my perspective on a film that moves from one time period to the other, and lingers on her days after she had to leave politics. It would have been more interesting showing her accomplishments, failures, and legacy. However, it is worth watching, because of the excellent actress Meryl Streep who never fails to deliver.
