Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Indirect My Dear AudienceSherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, PG-13, ***1/2, Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Rachel McAdams, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry. Warner Bros film. Director Guy Ritchie. Length 129 minutes.
The movie begins with a bang and ends with a surprise suppressed by a clue. It is very important to pay attention in life as well as during a Sherlock Holmes movie. Everyone knows that Holmes is eccentric, intelligent, and witty.
The plot is not just exactly “Elementary my dear Watson.” It requires observation, listening skills, and knowing the devious mind of Sherlock Holmes.
The audience has the ability to look inside the thought processes, scientific methods, and genius of Holmes. Watching the wheels turn inside his brain filled with clues and ideas becomes a meticulous hunt for the truth. The thoughts and ideas float around inside the brain of Holmes as they are preparing to be solved.
This is a smart and intelligent movie with enough action to keep the audience searching for the next chapter inside the Machiavellian mind of Holmes. How can the audience resist the research required in order to find the pieces of the unsolved puzzle.
The movie involves the greed, conflict, and power inside the minds of selfish humans. As a former leader said a few years ago, “the best way to revitalize the economy is war.” For some reason that does not sound very humanitarian. I must refer to the lyrics of Edwin Star – War – What is it good for – Absolutely Nothing.” I know that sometimes it is a necessity to protect our country and its people. It should be the last resort. The best way is to nip it at the stem.
During the time period of this movie, gun manufacturing, cotton, steel, opium, and all industries would strive if war raises its evil head. Create the supply and the demand will follow.
This is a smart movie that must be watched carefully in order to follow the thought processes and clues lurking around each corner.
Many of the characters which make the story worthwhile are present such as Mary Watson (Kelly Reilly), Dr. John Watson (Jude Law), Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris), Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), Mycroft Holmes (Stephen Fry), and of course, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr).
Obviously, this is a short review in order to allow the readers more time to shop and watch movies. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – See you at the movies.
