Fast Five
Speedy Gonzales In RioFast Five, PG-13, ***, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson. Universal film. Director Justin Lin. Length 130 minutes.
The “Fast Five” takes place in Rio de Janeiro. This film brings the audience possibly the best of the “Fast and Furious” series. It does not waste any time beginning the action after a brief setup.
Apparently, Dominic (Vin Diesel) or Speedy Gonzales as I like to call him has moved a little southeast to Brazil. I do not think Speedy will be able to return home unless he goes into hiding or incognito. In “Fast Five,” we have several Speedy Gonzales would-be individuals. It appears that Dominic is the alpha male of the speediest.
The first action scene involves stealing cars from a fast traveling train. It is one heck of a feat with more thrills and spills for the audience to enjoy. The final sequence from the train robbery is - shall we say - breathtaking.
After the excitement of the first action sequence, the audience is all set for plenty of over-the-top exhilarating adventures. The scenes of car chases, fights, shootouts, and everything action fans want from the “Fast and Furious” movies are all in this one.
Be ready for betrayals among thieves, running, shooting, jumping, and lots of testosterone macho panorama. Did I mention explosions? Yes, it is in the movie along with every other thrill imaginable for an action junkie.
We even have a “Mexican Standoff” in one portion of the movie. The audience will witness a car pulling a giant safe around the streets of Rio while being chased by good guys and bad guys.
The story revolves around crosses and double crosses. With Dominic behind the wheel along with some of his buddies, the action is high octane.
Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is one of the good guys. Hobbs is a special agent sent to Brazil to find Hobbs and bring him to justice.
Fortunately, the good guys decide to help the bad guys, and the bad guys decide to help the good guys. However, when the dust settles, it is back to business. I am sure we will see another Fast movie in the near future.
The plot revolves around an evil drug lord with lots of money to launder. The movie had a very interesting plot. It brought everything together nicely with an engaging story.
Of course, the gang plans to retire after this heist. I do not think so. With the box office results and favorable audience, I am sure they will be back for more action.
“Fast Five II” or maybe it will be Fast Six in the near future.
For pure adrenalin action, “Fast Five” is the movie to see. Just remember the action sequences are all filmed under a controlled environment. Do not try any of these moves. This is a movie.
Just sit back in the air conditioned theater and enjoy the action along with a pretty darn good plot.
