Summer doldrums at movie theaters too
Summer Doldrums At Movie Theaters TooI am still waiting for the movies to pull out of the despondency that is occurring during the summer season for blockbusters. I understand that many young fans truly enjoy the “Twilight Movies.” However, it is just not my cup of blood, or as I should say, Cup of Tea. To each his/her own.
I will not be too harsh on the fans, because I am a big western fan, thriller follower, realist devotee and mystery enthusiast. Adding a little realism in the mix makes it easier to digest in all genres. It just seems that this year is slow and dull in the world of movie entertainment.
I decided this week to give a very brief summary of movies that are on their way to a theater near someone. These are just a few that I am looking forward to seeing and enjoying. I could be disappointed, but I hope for the best.
The Girl Who Played With Fire – Opens in limited theaters July 9. A journalist who writes about crime to help stop corruptions teams up with a computer hacker. It is based on the book by the same name. the late Stieg Larson is the author.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – Starring Nicholas Gage.. A comedy from Disney. It should be good for some entertainment and thrills. Opens July 14
Inception – Starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Marion Cotillard, and Ellen Page.
A sci-fi experience that has movie goers wondering just what it is all about. We will know soon. Opens July 16.
Salt – Angelina Jolie as a government agent accursed of being a turn coat. I must admit I am anxious to see Jolie in action again. She has a screen presence that keeps audiences awake. Opens July 23.
Charles, St. Cloud – Based on Ben Sherwood’s novel about two brothers. It appers to be a little heartbreaking with a deep meaning. Opens July 30.
Get Low – Okay Tennessee citizens and historians. This is based on a true story about a man who planned and participated in his own funeral before he died. He wanted to know what people thought about him. Starring Robert Duvall. I predict we will all be at the theater on July 30 for this one.
The Other Guys – Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg – A comedy that may just hit the funny bone. Opens August 6. Ferrell as the comic relief guy and Wahlberg as the serious guy.
Eat, Pray, and Love – Starring Julia Roberts. Who can resist her? Based on the novel by Elizabeth Gilbert. Opens August 13.
The Expendables – Sylvester Stallone Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke – A testosterone loaded action film that should thrill the adventure seekers. We will all be glad to watch the good guys give the bad guys their due. Opens August 13.
The Switch – Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman. Looks like another comedy about a middle aged woman trying to get pregnant. Maybe Aniston can pull this one off and give the audience a few giggles. Opens August 20.
The Tillman Story – This is about Pat Tillman. He gave up a career in professional football to become a soldier. It will be a heart wrenching story. Opens August 20.
Takers – Bank robbers outsmarting the police. Maybe they will get caught before the movie is over. Opens August 27.
The American – Starring George Clooney as an assassin who wants to quit. He is in Italy preparing for his last job. The movie is based on A Very Private Gentleman by Martin Booth. Clooney gets involved with a woman in Italy and confides in a priest. This should be a suspenseful story with a dose of human interest along with action. Opens September 1.
See you at the movies
