Letters to God

Christian Movie Tugs at Heart
Letters To God, PG, *****Plus, Tanner Mcguire, Robyn Lively, Jeffrey Johnson, Michael Bolton, Maree Cheattan, Bailey Madison, Ralph Waite. Possibility Pictures film. Directors David Noxon Patrick Doughtie. Length 105 minutes.
As the film opens, the audience watches as the camera pans an ordinary neighborhood. The trees have moss hanging from them, and everything looks like a normal American area. The mailman knows everyone in the community, and he speaks to them as if they are old friends. A dog named Rooster will chase the mailman and bark loudly if he is in the front yard. However, he is mostly just bark.
One stop has the mailman concerned. He picks up letters that are addressed simply - To God from Tyler. As the viewer will soon learn, it is a sad, heartwarming, and inspirational film that is about to take the audience on a wonderful journey. The passage is worth every minute. The current mailman has been ordered to take a leave of absence. He has been working way to many hours without time off.
The replacement is Brad (Jeffrey Johnson). Brad has some emotional problems which he tries to overcome by drinking at a local bar. His past history is sad.
“Letters To God” was inspired by a true story. A young boy, Tyler (Tanner Maguire), has brain cancer. He is taking chemotherapy. His dad is dead, and his mother Maddy (Robyn Lively) is a nurse. His older brother Ben (Michael Bolton) is teenager. His grandmother Oliva (Maree Cheattan) stays with Tyler while his mother works. Tyler influences everyone around him with his faith and personality. He is a fighter and a charismatic young man.
Samantha (Bailey Madison) is Tyler’s best friend. She encourages and protects him while Tyler inspires Samantha. Samantha’s grandfather (Ralph Waite) adds color and sound advice to the film.
This is one of the best Christian films I have seen in a long time. It tells the story without being preachy, and it delivers an absolutely emotionally heartwarming message that everyone can enjoy.
Tyler compares writing letters to God as sending a text message to one’s best friend. It is a form of prayer. The young Tyler lives the Christian life from inspiring others to turning the other cheek. He goes back to school after a long experience with Chemotherapy, and the audience gets a look inside a classroom. I must say it is very realistic from the teacher to the students. We even witness a bullying moment. Samantha takes charge of this incident. This event shows the strength within Tyler’s heart. He not only talks the talk, but he walks the walk.
It has been said that everyone influences around ten people. Tyler influenced people from all over the world with his faith and life. He gives people the strength to travel down difficult roads.
I recommend this movie for everyone. Sometimes movies like this are not viewed. I hope that people will go see this one. We have St. Jude and Vanderbilt close to us. The movie demonstrates just how thankful we should be for hospitals that help individuals who become sick. People of faith display their strength which is contagious to everyone. After all helping others find their way in life should be our goal.
Giving people hope and continuing to support them along the path of life makes the world a better place to live. Bring a handkerchief or some Kleenex, because if this film does not tug at the heart of the viewers, they need to check their pulse. It will make everyone appreciate life and others around us who are struggling with physical, emotional, and mental problems. Maybe we can help show them the way to lighten their burden?
