About the Webcam

With permission from Hardin County Mayor Kevin Davis, the webcam is perched atop the Hardin County Courthouse and can provide visitors with a wonderful view of downtown Savannah, TN. Internet connectivity is made possible by Hardin County's Waypoint Wireless. The website integration was made possible by Lightsmythe, a Savannah based web development company.

Using the Webcam

Visitors can control the view of the camera using its pan, tilt and zoom controls. When users first enter the Webcam page, they will notice a Java applet (program) loading. You must have Java loaded on your computer to use the camera. It is a common piece of software but if you do not have it on your machine, you can download it by clicking here. Once the Java applet loads, users will see a box that looks like this:

In the upper left of the Webcam box users will see a button labeled control. Users can click this button to request control. Only one person can have control of the camera at a time. If someone already has control, users will be placed in a que to wait their turn for control. Users receive two (2) minutes of control per request. The que will only allow 10 users to be in line at any given time. If the que is full, you can simply continue to request control until you are allowed in the que or try again at a later time.

Once a user gains control, the Webcam box will appear as shown below:

A user can then click on the Control button again and a Control panel will appear giving directional control to the user.

The user in control of the camera will also see a panoramic picture and zoom control options at the bottom of the screen. These can also be clicked to control the camera. Finally, the user can left click and drag a box around an area of the main screen that they wish to zoom in on and the camera will automatically zoom to that area of the screen.
