Edith Walker

Edith Sanford Walker was born in Gibson County, Tenn., on Dec. 21, 1923, the daughter of the late Edgar and Blanche Garner Sanford.

Mrs. Walker was a retired registered nurse having worked for Baptist Hospital in Union City, Tenn. Prior to being a nurse, she had worked for Farm Bureau for several years.

Mrs. Walker had lived in Savannah, Union City, Martin and Oak Ridge, Tenn. She enjoyed her family, nursing, playing Bridge, needlepoint and stitchery. She was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ.

Mrs. Walker departed this life on Monday, Nov. 2, at the age of 85 years, 10 months, 12 days.

Mrs. Walker is survived by a son, Jon Caldwell and wife Susan of Hendersonville, Tenn.; three daughters, Judith Caldwell Beachum and husband Gerald of Lugoff, S.C., Janie Caldwell Alexander and husband Roger of Union City, Tenn., Joyce Caldwell Johnson and husband Ted of Newbern, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Douglas Beachum, Mark Beachum, Tyler Alexander, Ryan Alexander, Brian Alexander, Whitney Johnson, Jessica Caldwell, and Emily Caldwell; nine great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lester Caldwell; second husband, David Brown Walker; sister, Evelyn Tyler; brother, Robert Sanford.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Memory Gardens in Savannah, with Chuck Morris officiating. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
