Billy Kemp

Billy Larry Kemp was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Adamsville, the son of the late L.D. and Grace Harris Kemp.

He was a millwright by trade and well known for his love of Hudson automobiles. He was a member of the American Legion, having served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He was former President and then treasurer of the Mid South chapter of the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club, holding each office for several years. He retired from the Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company in Counce, Tenn., in 1991.

On Sept. 11, 1948, he was married to Laverle Plunk, who survives. They made their home in Adamsville for most of their life. He was a member of the Faithpointe church in Adamsville.

He passed from this life on Thursday, Oct. 29, after a short illness, at Savannah Healthcare in Savannah, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 12 days.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Phillip Kemp and wife Mary Ann of Fayetteville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Amanda Petzak and husband Tom of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Jonathan Kemp and wife Angie of Fayetteville, Tenn.; a sister, Jane Frey and husband Frank of Nashville; as well as several cousins, two nieces, a nephew, and his faithful companion Rusty.

Services were Saturday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville with Bill Luther and W.D. McCollum officiating. Interment was in Pine Hill Memorial Gardens, Adamsville.

Pallbearers: Terry Finley, Joel Frye, Jonathan Kemp, Tom Petzak, Skip Brammel, Scott Melson.
