Kenneth R. Perkins, of Morris Chapel, was born in Right, Tenn., on Feb. 4, 1926, the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mallie Reid Perkins.

On June 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Clemons, who preceded him in death on May 25, 1987. He is survived by his second wife, Bonnie Bishop, whom he married on Sept. 7, 1990.

Mr. Perkins was lifelong resident of Hardin County. He worked for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for 44 years, retiring in 1990. He had attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he earned his BS in marketing. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran. He was a Private 1st Class, serving the Pacific Theater in Iwo Jima and Guam.

Mr. Perkins was member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church (Lay Leader), Woodmen of the World, Secretary of Lodge 213, longtime member of the Savannah Swinging Squares, Morris Chapel Community Center Board, First Distributive Education Instructor at Central High School, lifetime member past State Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, past President of the Tennessee Rural Letter Carriers Associations and past officer of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mr. Perkins departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the age of 83 years, 8 months, 21 days.

In addition to his wife, Bonnie, Mr. Perkins is survived by two daughters, Pat Williams of Savannah and Pam Emert of Lancaster, Penn.; a step-daughter, Sheila Plunk of Morris Chapel; a brother, Tommy Reid Perkins of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Jessica Emert Wade (Jeremy), Jennifer, Georgia, and Paul Emert, Creed and Amber Williams; a special nephew, Logan Melton.

In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by
a sister, Lonette Perkins.

Services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Donald Earl Williams, Jimmy Dyer officiating. Burial was in the Morris Chapel Cemetery at Morris Chapel, Tenn.
