Virginia Smith (8-16-09) services 8-18-09

Virginia Smith, of Hardin County, was born in Hardin County, on Feb. 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ollie Jane Price Harville. On March 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to James Edward “Pop” Smith, who preceded his wife in death on Nov. 14, 1977. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 2 days. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Genia Garrard and Gail Russell, both of Savannah; one son, Paul Smith of Savannah; five grandchildren, Chad Smith, Jeremy Smith, Craig "Bud" Russell, Jennifer Davis and Hannah McClearen; five great-grandchildren, Kaile, Chase, Emily, Hailey and Braden Smith; one sister, Thelma McDonald of Savannah; one brother, Jack Harville of Tennessee. Other than her parents and her husband, Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Ann Smith; two sisters, Edith Sandusky and Anna Lee Harville; and two brothers, Melvin and Bill Harville. Services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m., at Turkey Creek Union Church in Savannah, with Willie Paul Kilburn officiating. Burial was in the Neill Cemetery at Savannah.
