Thelma Qualls (9-6-09) services 9-9-09
Thelma Byrd Qualls, 103, of Savannah, died Sunday, Sept. 6.
She was born in White Sulphur, Tenn., the daughter of the late Felix Grundy and Etna Carroll Byrd. She was united in marriage to Hobart Qualls, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Qualls retired from Brown Shoe Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Savannah since 1930, when she transferred her membership from Pickwick Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Home Demonstration Club. In addition to White Sulphur, which is now called Pickwick, Mrs. Qualls had also lived in Duncans Landing, which is now called Bruton Branch, and moved to Savannah in 1928.
Services were held on Sept. 9, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Dr. Ed Britt, Paul Woodford officiating. Burial was in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
She is survived by a daughter, Laura Qualls May of Savannah; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Leck Qualls and Keith Qualls; four brothers, Ed, Glen, Harry and Everett Byrd; two grandchildren.
