Robert Bruce Taylor
was born in Lake Charles, La., on Sept. 22, 1924, the son of the late Singleton and Willie Taylor.
On Feb. 17, 1979, he was united in marriage to Jean White, who survives.
Mr. Taylor enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 serving in World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He then went on to enlist in the United State Army Reserve in 1949, serving in Korea and Vietnam, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954. Mr. Taylor requested and received active duty as a Reserve Commissioned Officer of the Army in March 1967 as a Major. January 1983 he was appointed to Texas State Guard as a Battalion Commander, until his retirement in September of 1984. He was also a Colonel in the Transportation Corps for the Tennessee Defense Force and was a member of Robertson Chapel Church.
Mr. Taylor departed this life on Sunday, June 21, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, 30 days.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Taylor is survived by two daughters, Donna Taylor-Nelson of Wauwatosa, Wis. and Robin Taylor-Lee of Pensacola, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sandra W. Crooks of Birmingham, Ala.; two stepsons, James Elmer Webb Jr. of Birmingham, Ala. and Danny W. Webb of Trussville, Ala.; a brother, Singleton C. Taylor of Shreveport, La.; a grandson, Max Taylor; six step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by a son, Chris Taylor and a brother, Kenneth Taylor.
Services was held on Wednesday, June 24, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Billy Allegood, Jason Estes officiating. Burial was in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
