Laverne Pettigrew (8-5-09) services 8-8-09

Laverne T. Pettigrew, 86, of Savannah, died Wednesday, Aug. 5. He was born in Michie, the son of the late Eber T. and Vestal Rodgers Pettigrew. He was united in marriage to Anna Desoi, who survives. Mr. Pettigrew enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the 398th Anti-Aircraft Artillery and received Battle Stars for Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge and Battle of the Rhine. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1966. He had also worked for Wolfe Sales, Howmet Corporation, C.C.C. (Civil Conservation Corp) in Pikeville and was a member of the VFW. Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with John Johnston officiating. Burial was in the Overbrook Cemetery at Hardin County. In addition to his wife, Anna Pettigrew, he is survived by a son, Michael Pettigrew of Savannah; two daughters, Ursula Patterson of Albertville, Ala.and Monica Hunt of Florence, Ala.; a brother, Al Pettigrew of Adamsville; two sisters, Bobbie Patrick of Defuniak Springs, Fla. and Jean Morris of Adamsville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie True; two brothers, Gerald Pettigrew and James E. Pettigrew; three sisters, Vonda Ruth Russell, Catherine Hines, and Lou Greer.
