Joe B. Jordan, of Hardin County, was born in Michie on July 13, 1920, the son of the late Joe Ben and Maude Sowell Jordan.
On June 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Counce, who survives.
Mr. Jordan was a maintenance foreman at Shiloh National Military Park and had served in the U.S. Army for 39 months in the 79th Infantry. He was a member of the Shiloh Methodist Church. In addition to Michie, he had lived in Iuka, Mississippi, Shiloh and Memphis.
His father died when he was 14 years old. He quit school to work and help his mother and family. He was an honest man, a good husband and father.
Mr. Jordan departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the age of 89 years, 1 month.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn, Mr. Jordan is survived by a daughter, Martha Sowell and husband Rickey of Counce; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth DeBerry of Shiloh and Joan Churchwell of Michie; four grandchildren, Brad Jordan and wife Theressa, Julie Sowell, Joanie Sowell, Leigh Jordan White and husband Chris; 7 great-grandchildren, Alexandra Jordan, Jacob White, Jordan White, Whitney Provence, Millie Hopper, Maxdon Hopper, and Ben Jordan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Joe Marvin Jordan; a brother, Lilburn Jordan; a sister, Wilma Jordan Moss; grandparents, Frank W. and Julia Howell Jordan, James While and Melissa Jones Sowell.
Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Danny Adkisson, David Harstin officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery at Shiloh.
