Joda Melson Sr. (8-27-09) services 8-30-09

Joda Melson Sr., 71, of Olive Hill, died Thursday, Aug. 27, at his residence. He was the son of the late Jay and Pearl Burns Melson. He was united in marriage to Virginia Franks, who survives. Mr. Melson was a member of Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church and a retired roofer. Services were held Sunday, Aug. 30, at Shady Grove Freewill Baptist Church, Savannah with Steve Turnbow and Pete Turnbow officiating. Burial was in Olive Hill Cemetery with military honors. In addition to his wife, Virginia Melson of Olive Hill, he is survived by three sons, Joda Jr. of Iuka, Miss, Richard of Olive Hill and Daniel Melson of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild; and one brother, Edgar Melson of Rayburns Creek, Tenn. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jewel Stricklin and Mabel Melson; and a brother, Jesse Jay Melson.
