James Benjamin "Jim" Smith, Jr., 74, of Olive Hill, died Monday, Sept. 28. He was born in Olive Hill, the son of the late James Benjamin and Bertie Hurst Smith. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou White, who preceded him in death. Mr. Smith was the co-owner of H.O. Smith and Sons Store. He was the past Hardin County Commissioner and Fire Chief for District 9 Fire Department. Services were held on Friday, Oct. 2, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Don Simmons officiating. Burial was in the Memory Gardens at Savannah. He is survived by a daughter, Dianah Smith of Olive Hill; a son, Jimmy Dean Smith of Olive Hill; a brother, Robert O. Smith of Olive Hill; three grandchildren, a step-grandchild; three great-grandchildren.
