Jewel Dean Coggins Battles, 79, of Savannah, died Friday, April 24.
She was born in Collinwood, daughter of the late Tom and Ester Brown.
Ms. Battles was a homemaker and in her earlier years she had worked for Nelson’s Nursing Home in Waynesboro. She was of Freewill Baptist Belief.
Services were held on Saturday, April 25, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Shane Riley officiating. Burial was in the Prater’s Chapel Cemetery at Wayne County, Tenn.
She is survived by six daughters, Shirley Battles and Kay Morris, both of Clifton, Thelma Harmon of Knoxville, Joy Beecham, Johnna Austin, and Lisa Pilkinton, all of Savannah; a brother, Pete Brown of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Zella Cummings of Collinwood and Opal Brewer of Waynesboro; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John Edward Coggins in 1960; her second husband, Andrew Franklin Battles in 2001; a son, David Franklin Battles; 11 brothers and sisters.
