Douglas Prather (10-2-09) services 10-4-09

Douglas Henry Prather, 88, of Union City, Tenn., originally of Ramer, died Friday, Oct. 2. He was the son of the late Lloyd Paul and Mary Ethel Petree Prather. Mr. Prather was a retired construction superintendent. He had served in the Coast Guard as American merchant marine during World War II. He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church in Ramer. Services were held Sunday, Oct. 4, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer with Tommy Wilder officiating. Burial was in Ramer Cemetery. Arrangements by Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer. He is survived by three daughters, Susan Parks of Oxford, Kan., Kathy Van Stavern of Tulsa, Okla. and Judy Prather of Savannah; three sons, Richard of Corinth, Miss., J.P. of Union City, Tenn. and Paul D. Prather of Memphis, two sisters, Betty Miller of Idyllwild, Calif. and Carolyn Crowe of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Prather; his second wife, Mary E. Prather; a sister, Nolita Prather; and a brother, Ed Prather.
